Dr. Shelby Dillingham, PhD, LPC

Hi There,
It’s great to meet you. I’m a licensed professional counselor and have experience working in many settings, including the following: outpatient private practice, primary care clinics, and inpatient psychiatric units. These experiences allow me to work with different presenting concerns such as depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, trauma, and behavioral issues. I thoroughly enjoy using evidence-based treatments like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) – all of which also allow me to respect the connection between mind and body. Additionally, I enjoy exploring how clients fit into a larger system (e.g., family, workplace, relationship, etc.) and using that to inform our treatment together.

Education:
- MSEd in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at ODU
- PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision at ODU
In my spare time, I enjoy drinking coffee, taking naps, reading, watering my plants, and leisurely running local races, especially holiday-themed ones. Travel is also very important to me as it helps inform my perspective and respect cultures around me. Whether it’s exploring a new country or a nearby neighborhood, I enjoy everyday adventures that can be taken for granted. Lastly, although I don’t currently have any pets, I LOVE all photos or virtual appearances from your pets and learning about how they are part of your family.
