We give our children two things:

Roots to Grow, and Wings to Fly.

Roots and Wings began in 2021 as Amber’s heartfelt vision—a practice built on the foundation of inclusivity, equity, empathy, diversity, integrity, transparency, social justice, and empowerment. From day one, these values have been our guiding principles, shaping everything we do. In just three years, we’ve been privileged to welcome over 1,500 clients through our doors, each seeking support, guidance, and connection.

After the pandemic, our operations grew rapidly, transforming our small team into a thriving organization. We began with two clinicians and minimal administrative support, but within three years, we nearly tripled in size. Today, our practice includes 16 passionate clinicians and 10 dedicated administrative staff, all working together to serve the diverse needs of our community.

This remarkable growth reflects not only our commitment to inclusivity, equity, and care but also the trust and support we’ve received from our clients. Alongside our expansion, we’ve been proud to develop a range of programs and events that deepen our impact, including our clinical internship program. This initiative provides future mental health professionals with invaluable hands-on experience and mentorship, preparing them to become the next generation of skilled and compassionate clinicians.

As we continue to grow, our mission remains the same: to provide accessible, equitable care while empowering those we serve. It’s been an incredible journey, and we’re grateful for the trust placed in us as we look forward to creating an even greater impact in the years to come.

We are thrilled to be a part of your Wellness Journey. Please take a look around and reach out to contact us. We would be happy to assist in the beginning or transition of your journey.

Dr. Amber Jones, Director of Counseling, CEO

Amber is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) through the National Board for Certified Counselors. She earned her master’s degree in counseling from Old Dominion University and her PhD in counseling and psychologic studies with a major concentration in Marriage and Family from Regent University.
Amber is the founder and owner of Roots and Wings. She started the practice with two dreams in mind. One, to provide inclusive and equitable service to everyone in the community of the Hampton Roads, and two, to provide an environment for counselors that prevents burnout and compassion fatigue. Her goal is to provide a place of safety, empathy, and transparency for both our clients and our staff.
Her theoretical foundation is based on Family Systems and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with the belief that all members in a family are connected and what affects one member affects all members, creating patterns of dysfunction that must be acknowledged, processed, and broken. She holds the belief that all experiences throughout the lifespan influence our thoughts, behaviors and actions as they relate to the world and people around us – beginning with the most foundational experiences we learn about relationships within our family of origin.
