Michael Wilkinson, LPC, ACS

I have worked in a variety of mental health settings with both adults and children including: a long-term wilderness therapeutic program for boys with emotional and behavioral issues, an acute psychiatric hospital setting with children and adults, and as an intensive in-home counselor working with children and families. I also worked as an investigator for Child Protective Services for 8 years where I was passionate about protecting and ensuring the safety of some of our community’s most vulnerable citizens while providing them with resources to function more effectively as family units. I have worked as an outpatient therapist since January of 2021. My approach to counseling is very person centered, strengths-based, solution-focused, and employs Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques as applicable and useful.
Get to Know Me
I grew up in the small town of Greenville, MS, but my journey has taken me across many parts of the United States, shaping my perspective and deepening my appreciation for different cultures and experiences. In 2003, I settled in Virginia, where I have built a meaningful life and a place to call home.
I find peace in traveling, the rhythm of the ocean at the beach, and the quiet presence of close friends. Exercise keeps me grounded, and sharing a good meal is one of life’s simple joys. Above all, I have an unwavering love for dogs, whose companionship has been a constant source of comfort and connection.
I am also an Eagle Scout, a title that represents perseverance, leadership, and service—values I carry with me every day. Music has always been a profound part of my life, offering solace, inspiration, and a way to express what words often cannot.
